The Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) takes the lead in delivering world class aviation safety for all Australians. CASA sets aviation safety standards, ensures compliance and offers safety education and training.  

The Legal Services Division is responsible for th
e provision of legal advice, coordinating CASA’s Freedom of Information and Privacy procedures, responding to summonses, subpoenas, drafting of legislative instruments and handling matters in the Administrative Appeals Tribunal and Federal Court.

The role and responsibilities

This is an exciting opportunity for a lawyer with 1-4 years PQE to join CASA’s Legislative Drafting Section where you will be responsible for the drafting of legislative instruments, the provision of legal advice in relation to legislative drafting and general legal advice as guided by legislation.

This position assists with drafting instruments of delegation, civil aviation orders and other legislative documents and legal instruments that are compliant with legislative requirements and are legally valid, effective and enforceable.

To be successful in the role you will be highly motivated, have strong written and verbal communication skills and a high level of attention to detail.

Qualifications and experience

Along with your tertiary qualifications in Law, you will be a legal practitioner of the High Court or a Supreme Court of a State or Territory.

Demonstrated experience in legislative drafting, knowledge of the legislative process including operation of the Federal Register of Legislative instruments would be highly regarded.
