To be an effective force the Navy needs all its personnel fit and healthy, including their dental health. Naval dental officers provide the full range of dental treatments to naval personnel at no cost to the patient, and so treatment plans never have to be compromised for financial reasons.

The type of dental practitioner the Navy is looking for is someone who works well in a team environment, is not averse to moving around the country sometimes at short notice and occasionally abroad, has high standards and a strong work ethic.

Naval dental facilities vary from large multi-dentist clinics offering the full range of general and specialist dental services, to single Denta
l Officer clinics at a base or on a ship. Career progression for Dental Officers is based on clinical and management competency levels. Our facilities are modern and fully equipped and supported by well-trained dental and clerical staff.

Pay and Benefits
You will be paid while you undertake your training, receive free healthcare and dental care and subsidised accommodation. Upon completion of training, you’ll enjoy a starting salary package of approximately $92,554 well as a generous superannuation contribution.

Employment Location
Navy provides Health Officers with the opportunity for the development of professional skills in a variety of locations including shore establishments and ships in the fleet.

Entry Requirements
You must be between the ages of 17 and 56 years of age and an Australian citizen, or if you hold a Permanent Residency status your application may be considered. Additional age, medical and fitness guidelines may also apply.

Education Requirements
Applicants must be registered as a dental practitioner under the laws of the Commonwealth or a State of Australia, or hold qualifications which render them eligible for such registration.

Note: All methods of entry for this role require your qualifications to be endorsed by the Directorate of Naval Category Management. If found satisfactory through this assessment, your Case Manager will be advised that you satisfy the minimum education standards and your application will be progressed. Your Case Manager will organise this process for you.
