Our client has a strong stance in the Australian rail industry and are on the path for continual growth.  They support infrastructure, rolling stock and equipment programs at all stages of the project life-cycle. As a result of their growth, they are seeking an experienced consultant to drive further growth, including managing project delivery and further developing their presence in key programs.  Your role will be to lead our safety management offering into this vast range of undertakings within the rail sector.

You will be an experienced rail safety engineer with a demonstrable background in the application of safety strategies within the Australian rail sector. This exciting opportunity offers you the chance to utilise your technical skills to make a contribution to a wide range of safety projects. Excellent customer facing skills are crucial. You will be expected to work closely with our Business Managers and with our Safety Team to identify and exploit opportunities, develop propositions and advise on the development of our future service offering in this key business area.  You will lead projects, taking full responsibility for the technical and commercial success, whilst directing and assisting staff assigned to your project teams. You will also provide mentorship to our engineering teams on the application of Systems Safety Engineering techniques in the Rail sector

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the preparation and development of Safety Assurance Reports, Statements and related documents
  • Resolve complex issues regarding Safety and Risk across complex projects
  • Lead and influence the performance of team members in meeting Safety Assurance requirements
  • Identify improvements and actions required to ensure compliance with Safety Legislation and Safety Management Systems, with advice and support to implement necessary changes


 The successful candidate will able to display the following:
  • A good degree in a relevant field;
  • Strong initiative and the ability to develop and deliver innovative solutions to fulfil customer requirements;
  • Knowledge of EN 50126/50128/50129 and AS4292 - Railway Safety Management;
  • A clear history of Safety Case development for rolling stock and/or infrastructure;
  • An in-depth understanding of Rail Industry Safety Management Systems and Engineering Safety Management principles;
  • Significant experience in the application of hazard management techniques in the rail environment;
  • Demonstrable experience in rail systems, operations or technology.
