Destination NSW is a NSW Government Public Service Executive Agency with responsibility for devising and implementing strategies to grow the v
isitor economy. Our particular focus is on driving tourism and acquiring and developing major sporting and cultural events for Sydney and Regional NSW. Destination NSW is also the major investor in Business Events Sydney.
The General Manager, Communications is a full on, hands on, on-call role with significant breadth and pace, responsible for a large team whose remit covers proactive PR and promotion, ministerial and government liaison, and content production for traditional and new media.
It demands a high degree of comfort, confidence and resilience in dealing with the diversity and complexity of an extensive range of government, commercial and community stakeholders.
The successful candidate will need strategic communications, promotional publicity and issues management experience gained at the highest level, in a large organisation, most likely in a consumer facing context, ideally with an international focus. A background in travel and tourism, including with a national/state tourism authority, or similar, will be an advantage.
