St Nicholas Early Education is a new agency of the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle, that provides high quality education for children up to five years old.  The centre will work within the ethos of equality and encourage inclusion of children from all cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.  Our flagship centre will open in mid-May 2016, located at 845 Hunter Street, Newcastle West. 

Currently we are seeking applications for one or more positions, Early Childhood Educators, qualified at Diploma level.

This position is an entry level role, suitable for new graduates.

 As an Early Childhood Educator, you will be expected to be a team member which provides high quality early childhood education and care to children. The Diploma level positions will assume some leadership responsibilities, and  will require you to be an active member of the team, with a passion for providing high quality care and education to children.  You will have the ability to develop relationships with children and families, assist in the implementation of policy and process of St Nicholas, and work with other staff to continuously improve the operations of St Nicholas.  St Nicholas Early Education adopts a best practise ethos in care and education, to ensure it has a positive reputation in the community of Newcastle.

The essential criteria for the Diploma Role, Early Childhood Educator, includes:
  • A Diploma level qualification in Children's Services as identified by the Australian Children's Education and Care Quality Authority;
  • A Demonstrated understanding of:
  1. National Quality Framework (NQF);
  2. Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF);
  3. Child Protection and Mandatory Reporting;
  4. Workplace Health and Safety issues and practices
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience working as a Child Care Educator within an early childhood service;
  • Knowledge of the stages of physical, emotional, cognitive, social and cultural development of children;
  • The capability to engage children through activities and experiences appropriate for age groups / stages of development;
  • Knowledge of health, hygiene and the nutrition needs of children;
  • The ability to communicate effectively with children, families and staff;
  • Experience in / or interest in additional needs / challenging behaviours;
  • A commitment to your own ongoing professional development in early childhood;
  • The ability to undertake the physical requirements involved within an early childhood setting:
  • Child protection qualification;
  • Current First Aid Certificate, Anaphylaxis and Asthma Management training;
  • Working With Children Check verification number.

Our centre will be staffed by a dedicated team of qualified professionals.  It will comply with all national regulations and licensing requirements.  The centre will operate for 51 weeks of the year.  Applicants for positions at St Nicholas Early Education are not required to be Catholic; all applications will be selected on merit against the criteria.
