The role

Reporting directly to the Group Leader – Scientific Computing & IT, the Senior Software Engineer manages the design, development and operation of specialised software applications, with an emphasis on database and portal development that supports our core operational infrastructure.  These applications will improve the productivity and efficiency of experiments conducted by the users of the facility and will ultimately increase scientific output.
The successful candidate will have to be largely self-directed and able to balance numerous competing stakeholder needs. The role will involve maintenance, scoping and development of systems and facilitating transition across to other systems and requires previous experience in managing a software development project within a small – medium size business. Demonstrated experience in the entire software development life-cycle, a variety of programming languages,   identity management, virtualisation and Linux system administration in general would be advantageous.
