About the Role

The Pastoral Services Officer provides pastoral care services to patientsof the Mater Hospital, their families and carers . The position will support St Vincent’s Health Australia’s vision through the continual pursuit of excellence in providing pastoral care services.

About the Candidate

The Pastoral Services Officer is required to have a sound knowledge of the spiritual and pastoral needs of patients, Clinical Pastoral Service issues, theology and contemporary counselling practices.  The successful candidate will demonstrate enthusiasm, compassion and empathic listening skills. They should demonstrate spiritual maturity and an ability to appreciate differing value systems, beliefs and practices.

The candidate must have:
  • Qualifications in either Pastoral Care (e.g. Clinical Pastoral Education - minimum 2 Units), theology, counselling, psychology, chaplaincy or equivalent
  • Understanding of Clinical Pastoral issues and employment experience in a health care or other complex setting.
  • Understanding of the Catholic tradition and the sacraments of the Catholic Church.
  • Understanding of and commitment to the Catholic ethos and identity of the Mater Hospital and St. Vincent's Health Australia
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills
