The Faculty of the Professions is one of five faculties at the University of Adelaide. It is comprised of the prestigious Adelaide Law School, the School of Architecture and Built Environment, the Adelaide Business School, the School of Economics and the Entrepreneurship, Commercialisation and Innovation Centre. The faculty offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees and has strong connections with business and industry. The Centre for Global Food and Resources (GFAR) is an official University Research Centre within the Faculty of Professions. The Centre aims to advance research and knowledge in food and nutrition policy, food security, the economics of food value chains, resource and environmental economics and the role of agriculture in growth and development.

The Business Manager is a pivotal role within the Centre and is responsible for project and planning support for GFAR research and programs. The position will actively support the strategic objectives of GFAR by coordinating the process for applying for external funding for research and development activities, including grants and contracts. This position will determine resources and budgets required to deliver research projects, and prepare sub-contracts for external service providers where required.

The Business Manager provides high-level executive support to the Executive Director and Associate Directors of GFAR by preparing comprehensive and complex reports, and managing finances. This role requires business development, research management and operational management experience and is also responsible for managing administrative staff members.

Reporting to the Executive Director Global Food and Resources, you will be responsible for ensuring effective management and coordination of GFAR research projects and post-graduate programs.



Salary: (HEO7) $78,334, $87,880 per annum
Superannuation: An employer contribution of 17% may apply
Term of position: This is three year fixed term position available for immediate start

To be successful your application should outline clearly how you meet the following knowledge and experience requirements:
  • Demonstrated experience in the on-time delivery of projects involving multiple stakeholders;
  • Demonstrated commitment to a customer service culture
  • Demonstrated experience in research contract management and research grant management
  • Demonstrated experience engaging with senior executives from business, industry and government
  • Demonstrated experience in contributing strategically by providing sound operational advice, including preparation of reports or similar
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully undertaking budget management and coordination activities
  • Experience in using Student Administrative Systems such as PeopleSoft or equivalent (desirable)
  • Understanding of the current management practices and principles of the University including, human resources, OH&S, financial reporting and student administration (desirable)
  • Significant knowledge of higher education sector in Australia (desirable)
A tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience; or extensive experience and expertise in administrative fields or research grant management is required.
