Act for Peace is looking for an experienced Disaster and Emergencies Program Coordinator to provide day to day leadership and specialist support to staff and partners undertaking disaster preparedness & emergency response activities within the regions where Act for Peace is supporting programming. You will be responsible for operational disaster management processes including risk reduction, preparedness & response project design, program implementation, monitoring and evaluation, and during specific humanitarian crisis will lead program teams providing technical and operational support including managing specific responses as delegated.
We are looking for a dynamic individual who would like to join our growing team, and can demonstrate experience in:
  • The development, leadership and implementation of successful emergency response and disaster recovery programs.
  • Community-based approaches to disaster risk reduction, preparedness and response.
  • Building the capacity of field-based staff and/or partner agencies in all aspects of disaster management.
  • Liaising with and facilitating NGO engagement in planning and implementation of emergency response programs.
  • Project management.

Act for Peace is the international aid agency of the National Council of Churches in Australia (‘NCCA’), a council of 19 member churches. Required selection criteria:
1) Demonstrated leadership and management experience in the development and implementation of successful emergency response and disaster recovery programs benefiting communities based overseas. Please provide examples of two to three responses, including your role and the scope the response.
2) In depth knowledge of disaster management, including community-based approaches to disaster risk reduction and preparedness. Please provide examples of two to three programs you have coordinated, including the extent of your role and scope of the program.
3) Excellent and demonstrated project cycle management skills, including financial management.
4) Experience in the capacity building of field-based staff and/or partner agencies in all aspects of disaster management including proven ability to provide both face-to-face and remote support to in-country staff to design and implement disaster management programs.
5) Experience in community base protection programming design and implementation (desired).
6) Experience in design, proposal development and reporting for government funded programming.
7) Experience liaising with and facilitating NGO engagement in planning and implementation of emergency response programs.
8) Strong leadership skills – the ability to inspire and lead multiple teams/working groups and effectively engage with a range of stakeholders.
9) Excellent organisational skills, including ability to plan, organize, prioritise and implement work flow processes to meet position objectives, work independently and as part of a team.
10) Proven ability to work under pressure and be flexible, including the ability to cope with multiple tasks, deadlines, and competing and/or changing demands.
11) Advanced writing, editing and document formatting skills (if invited to an interview please bring examples of reports for agencies or donors, policies and or operational manuals illustrating your capacity to communicate in the written word).
